How to Train Slayer in RS3 (and Why It's Worth It)
Slayer is the skill that quietly makes you good at the rest of the game. It's a combat skill where a Slayer Master assigns you a monster to kill, and it pays off in ways a normal combat grind doesn't.
Why train Slayer first
- It trains everything at once. Kills count toward Attack/Strength/Defence (or Ranged, Magic, Necromancy) and Constitution and Slayer — so you level several skills on one grind.
- It teaches you to fight. Tasks throw you at a huge range of monsters, so you learn mechanics, switches, and prayer management the natural way.
- It's a money-maker. Slayer-only monsters drop some of the game's better items, and unlocks (like the ability to make and use certain gear) come from Slayer levels and reward points.
How tasks and masters work
You get a task from a Slayer Master, kill that many of the assigned monster, then return for the next one and some reward points. Higher-level masters give tougher, more profitable tasks — as your combat and Slayer levels rise, move up to the next master. Reward points are spent in the Slayer shop on permanent unlocks and quality-of-life upgrades.
The three habits that make Slayer fast
- Block and prefer tasks. Spend points to permanently block the handful of tasks that are slow or annoying, and use prefer to weight toward the ones you like. This alone is the biggest speed-up.
- Use a cannon on big, spread-out tasks. A dwarf multicannon shreds tasks with lots of weak monsters.
- Match your style to the task. Some monsters resist a style or have a weak one — swapping to the right combat style (and any recommended gear) cuts kill times a lot.
