"Maxed" is one of the proudest words a RuneScape 3 player can put next to their name — but it means a few different things depending on who you ask. This guide lays out exactly what maxing is, the numbers behind it, and how to track your way there.

What "maxed" actually means

There are three milestones people call "maxed", from easiest to hardest:

• All 99s — level 99 in every skill, the classic definition of maxing. This is what the Max Cape represents: the elite skills only need 99 for the cape, not their full cap.
• Max total level — every skill at its individual cap (99, 110, or 120 depending on the skill), for a total of 3,232. Strictly harder than all 99s, and not required for the Max Cape.
• True max (200M all) — 200,000,000 XP in every skill, the absolute ceiling.

The maximum total level in RS3

The highest total level you can reach is 3,232. RuneScape 3 has 29 skills, but they don't all stop at 99 any more: 8 cap at 99, 8 continue to 110, and 13 go all the way to 120 (see which skills go past 99). Add every skill at its own cap and you land on 3,232.

Because the caps shift as Jagex reworks skills, the surest way to see the current maximum — and exactly how far you are from it — is the Max XP & Total Level tool, which is built from the same experience tables your profile uses, so it never drifts.

How much XP maxing takes

The XP behind each milestone is very different:

• Every skill cap (max total level): roughly 1.75 billion XP.
• All 99s: about 401 million XP. (99 in a normal skill is 13,034,431 XP; Invention is the exception at 36,073,511 because it uses its own curve.)
• 200M in all 29 skills (true max): exactly 5.8 billion XP — 200M × 29.

Planning your route to max

Maxing is really a long series of skill goals. Two tools make the grind concrete:

• The Goal Planner lets you line up several skill targets at once and see the total XP ahead — and, if you enter an XP/hour rate, roughly how long it'll take.
• The XP Calculator gives you the exact XP between any two levels for a single skill.

Combat level and the Max Cape

Maxing your skills also maxes your combat level, which tops out at 152 in RS3. The Max Cape is awarded for reaching level 99 in every skill (the elite skills only need 99, not their full cap, for the cape) — see RS3 Milestone Capes Explained for how the Max, Completionist, and Quest capes differ.
